2 Player Games: The Challenge — A Review for Couples

One-Phone Couple GamesMobile Couple Games

2 Player Games: The Challenge solves a problem almost nothing else on mobile does: two people, one phone. Not a shared account, not passing it back and forth — both of you holding the same device at the same time, each with your own half of the screen.

What is in it

A collection of small competitive mini-games. Reaction tests, tug-of-war, penalty shootouts, quick-draw duels, mini racing — the kind of thing you understand in two seconds and are arguing about by the fourth round. Most take under a minute.

The screen is split, each of you gets a side, and you tap your half. That is the entire interface and it is the right design.

What it is genuinely good at

  • Zero setup. No accounts, no friend codes, no second download. Open it, hand over half the screen, play.
  • Dead time. Waiting rooms, queues, a restaurant table before the food arrives. This is where it earns its place.
  • One phone. If one of you has a dead battery, this still works.
  • Nobody needs to be good at games. Most rounds are close to pure reaction.

Where it runs out

It is a snack, not a meal. There is no progression, no reason to come back tomorrow beyond wanting to play it again, and after half an hour you have seen most of what it does. Ads are present, as they are in most free collections of this kind.

It also only works in the same room. There is no online mode, which is obvious when you think about it but catches people out.

Is it worth installing?

Yes, as a utility rather than a hobby. Keep it on one of your phones for the times you are stuck somewhere together with nothing to do. Judged as your main couple game it will disappoint; judged as the thing that saves a boring forty minutes, it is excellent.

What to pair it with

Something with continuity, so you have both ends covered. Our Flower Garden for a shared thing that grows, or UNO! for proper rounds on two phones. If the one-device format is what appeals, the full list is in games for two people on one phone, and Plato is the closest thing to it if you want variety across two devices instead.
