These two get compared constantly and the comparison is slightly unfair, because they are not really the same kind of game. Our Flower Garden gives two people one garden. Hay Day gives each of you your own farm and then lets you visit. That single structural difference decides almost everything else.
The one-plot difference
In Our Flower Garden you are both looking at the same patch of ground. If your partner waters something, it is watered when you open the app. If you harvest, the harvest is gone. There is no version of the garden that belongs to you specifically, which sounds like a small thing until you notice it changes how you talk about the game — you say “we” without thinking about it.
Hay Day is your farm. Your partner has theirs. You can visit, trade and help with orders, and that is genuinely sociable, but you are running parallel businesses rather than one shared thing. Plenty of couples love it for exactly that reason: nobody can mess up your layout.
Pace and pressure
Hay Day is the busier game. Crops have timers, orders come in, the boat needs filling. That rhythm is satisfying if you both check in a few times a day and quietly stressful if one of you does not. Our Flower Garden has no timers at all, which means a skipped week costs you nothing and the person with less free time never feels like a liability.
If you and your partner have very different amounts of free time, that is the deciding factor, and we have a whole piece on games for two very different schedules.
Depth
Hay Day is the deeper game by a distance. Years of content, a real economy, a trading community. Our Flower Garden is small on purpose — you will see most of what it does fairly quickly. Whether that is a flaw depends on what you want. A game you both open for four minutes a day does not need to be deep; it needs to be easy to open.
Which should you install?
- You want one shared thing: Our Flower Garden. It is the only one of the two that actually does this.
- You both play a lot and like systems: Hay Day. More to do, more to optimise, more to talk about.
- One of you is much busier: Our Flower Garden, or Hay Day with an explicit agreement that nobody owes anybody a daily login.
- You tried a farm game before and dropped it: the problem was probably the timers. Go with the one that does not have any.
Or run both
This is what a lot of couples end up doing, and it works. Hay Day for the evenings you both have time, Our Flower Garden as the thing that is always there. If you want more in this genre, Township is the third option worth a look — we compare it with Hay Day in Hay Day vs Township, and the full list lives in farming games to play with your partner.
