Play Together is not really a game with an objective. It is an island you both live on — fishing, decorating a house, running into other players, doing small events. For some couples that is exactly right. For others it is aimless within a week. Which one you are is worth working out before you both commit.
What you actually do
Fish, farm, camp, decorate, collect, and hang around. There are mini-games and seasonal events, but the spine of it is cosmetic progress and being somewhere with other people. It is closer to a social space than a challenge.
As a couple you get a shared hangout: you can meet up, visit each other’s houses, do events together and generally use it as a place rather than an activity.
Who it suits
- Couples who like decorating and collecting. If the appeal of a game is making a nice room, this delivers.
- Long distance. “Meet me at mine” is a surprisingly good substitute for a shared evening.
- People who want low stakes. There is nothing to fail.
Who it does not suit
If either of you needs a goal, this will not hold. Without a challenge to push against, the novelty fades and you stop opening it — usually around week two. That is not a flaw in the game so much as a mismatch, and it is worth being honest about which of you is which.
Getting started together
- Install on both phones — free, and it works across iPhone and Android.
- Sign in with a proper account on each so progress is saved and the friend list works.
- Add each other in-game and join the same server, or you will be on the same island in name only.
- Agree a standing time. A social world with nobody in it is just a loading screen.
That last point matters more here than in most games. A game with no goals needs an external reason to open it — see how to keep playing as a couple.
